A Reflection on Ezekiel 8:31
"Son of man, seest thou what they do? even the great abominations that the house of Israel committeth here..." — Ezekiel 8 (KJV, theme)
Ezekiel 8 is a sobering chapter. God shows the prophet what was happening in secret: worship that looked holy on the outside, but hearts that had wandered far from Him. It is a warning that spiritual decline usually begins quietly, in hidden places.
God Sees What Is Hidden
The vision in Ezekiel 8 reminds us that nothing is hidden from God. People can build religious routines, attend worship, and still carry private idols in their hearts. The Lord does not only examine our words; He examines our loves.
Repentance Is the Way Back
This chapter is not just judgment; it is invitation. When God reveals sin, He does so to heal us, not destroy us. Conviction is mercy. The same God who exposes darkness also offers cleansing to all who return to Him in humility.
"Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me." — Psalm 51:10 (KJV)
A Prayer for Today
Lord, search me. Remove every hidden idol. Teach me to worship You in spirit and in truth. Let my public life and private life both honor Your name. In Jesus' name, Amen.
