Courage in the Storm
"And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm." — Mark 4:39 (KJV)
The disciples were terrified. The waves crashed against their small boat, water poured in, and all seemed lost. And Jesus? He was asleep on a pillow in the stern.
How could He rest in the middle of chaos? Because He knew something the disciples hadn't yet learned: the storm wasn't bigger than the One who made the sea.
The Question They Asked
"Master, carest thou not that we perish?" (Mark 4:38). How many times have we asked God the same thing? "Don't you care? Don't you see what's happening? Why are you silent?" Those aren't questions of rebellion — they're questions of pain. And God meets us in them.
Three Words
Jesus didn't give a long speech. He didn't explain the weather patterns. He stood up and said three words: "Peace, be still." And the storm obeyed. Three words from the mouth of God were enough to silence the chaos.
If He can calm the sea with His voice, He can calm whatever storm you're facing. Not always in the way we expect — sometimes the storm continues, but He gives us peace in the middle of it.
The Real Question
After calming the storm, Jesus asked the disciples: "Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith?" (Mark 4:40). The real storm was never the wind and waves. It was the fear in their hearts. Jesus addressed both.
"Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." — John 14:27 (KJV)
Whatever storm you're in today — financial, relational, health, uncertainty — the same Jesus who spoke "Peace, be still" is with you in the boat. He hasn't fallen asleep on your problems. He's waiting for you to turn to Him.
